PRIX  LIGNUM

The extension of the Chalet Bergfrieden in Saas in Prättigau was awarded the Prix Lignum 2012 by the Federal Office of the Environment (CH).

Jury statement:
The chalet “Haus Bergfrieden” is a “circular-knit construction” dating back to the 1930s. In order to restore the original form of the chalet, the existing, rather odd-looking annex was replaced by a new separate addition, connected to the older building only on the ground floor by a glass walkway. The unified design of the exterior space on the ground floor connects the two parts of the building and creates a quiet, clearly-defined space in which the juxtaposition and coexistence of the two volumes is fully exploited.
