DAM PRIZE FOR ARCHITECTURE IN GERMANY

In 2012, the reconstruction and extension of Hambach Castle was unanimously selected from among 22 projects as the winner of the DAM Prize. The new restaurant building next to Hambach Castle is based on the morphology of the thick utilitarian walls and maintains the principle of the historical circular walls.

Neither uncompromisingly focussed on the present nor discreetly reserved, Max Dudler develops a repertoire of forms that remains intimately connected to the autonomous strength of his architecture and yet is so adaptable that it is able to give emphasis to the castle’s essence.
