BDA PREIS BERLIN

The Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Centre received the BDA Prize Berlin in 2009.

Jury statement:
The urban figure is an outstanding success, on the one hand, as a result of its compactness and in the manner in which it extends the Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse in the east by completing the end of the block and, on the other hand, by displacement and space formation in the west in the form of a far from isolated, but self-conscious position. The sculptural treatment of the large form, the effortless mastery of the scale, the fine rhythmic form of the façades, the layering, transparency and finesse of the detail, alongside the reduced selection of materials, demonstrate great coherence. Compared to other large forms and “urban building blocks” in Berlin, the Central Library, endowed with these qualities, occupies an outstanding place.
