At Berliner Allee 148 in Berlin-Weißensee, a carriage house with 13 apartments is being built, divided into four small terraced houses and two multi-family houses. The property is located in a residential area characterized by perimeter block development from the Wilhelminian era, consisting of one- to three-story residential and commercial buildings. The planned carriage house aligns with the structure of the neighboring courtyard buildings, forming a boundary-adjacent two- to three-story side wing with a transverse building, in a manner similar to the existing development. Access is provided through a passageway in the front building. The buildings are barrier free accessible. The two-story terraced houses, featuring a basement, raised ground floor, and first floor, are accessed via private external staircases. The apartments in the multi-family houses are partly designed as three-story maisonettes and partly as barrier free single-level apartments. The design of the carriage house deliberately draws inspiration from historical workshops and manufactories in Berlin’s backyards during during the era of industrialization. The large-format window fronts typical of this style ensure plenty of natural light in the apartments and are planned as wooden windows. The façades will be finished with facing bricks, with a cornice suggested by a course of roll bricks. Between the front building and the side wing, a spacious courtyard area provides play areas and bicycle parking. The pathways are constructed with a bound gravel surface to optimize surface water drainage.
