The small residential complex on Herbartstrasse situated near Berlin's Lietzensee lake, comprises the historic villa by architect Wilhelm Keller (1922-23) and a new building in the second row. Through an intensive architectural dialogue, this ensemble is evolving into a harmonious twin structure. The new building adopts the formal and material language of the original monument, transforming its characteristic elements into a modern interpretation. It connects to the old building with the use of clinker brick, whose varied shades create an interesting interplay of colors. The historic villa's oriels and extensions are echoed in an abstract form in the new design. Haus Wittgenstein in Vienna serves as a reference for this type of architectural transformation, marking perhaps the first instance of such design transfer in a similar project.
