ACCESS CITY AWARD

The Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Centre received the Access City Award in 2013. With the prize, the European Commission wishes to acknowledge exemplary measures to improve accessibility for people with disabilities in fundamental areas of urban life.

After the opening of the Grimm Centre in October 2009, a number of measures were implemented with regard to obstruction-free access of the building. Today, in the foyer, the building has signage for the blind and visually impaired, as well as audio prompts in the elevator, Braille signage for the severely visually impaired and the blind, as well as automatic door opening. The design of obstruction-free workplaces for people with visual impairments and for wheelchair users is also exemplary.
