Gesundes Zentrum

At the heart of Rodenberg's historic centre, a new neighbourhood is taking shape that builds carefully on the existing urban fabric, creates subsidised housing and strengthens medical provision in a rural setting. The ensemble of two elongated new buildings forms a clear urban composition. Deliberately positioned projections and recesses respond to the fine-grained scale of the surrounding town while establishing a new address in the centre of Rodenberg.
The buildings sit harmoniously within the existing townscape through their scale, materiality and roof forms. Their monolithic façades, finished in a beige-brown render, draw on the colours of the surrounding natural-stone architecture, including the town hall and the historic water castle. This gives the ensemble a robust and distinctly local character.
The positioning of the two buildings creates a shared centre: a raised, landscaped entrance platform that serves as a recognisable meeting place and provides access to all residential uses. As a semi-public space, it encourages encounters between neighbours and strengthens the sense of community.
Facing Rathausplatz to the southwest, the development is anchored by a publicly accessible medical practice, which forms a distinctive entrance to the quarter and gives the ensemble a clear presence within the town. Inside the development, barrier-free and subsidised apartments predominate, complemented by loggias and rooftop terraces. Quiet, pedestrian-oriented access and generous bicycle parking contribute to the high quality of the open spaces and support sustainable mobility.
In this way, the new "Gesundes Zentrum" fits sensitively into Rodenberg's established urban fabric, strengthens the local medical infrastructure and provides much-needed housing – a forward-looking project for a vibrant and socially cohesive community at the heart of the town.
