The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, formerly Prussian Academy of Sciences (Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften), has its residence in Taubenstrasse at Gendarmenmarkt, in the heart of Berlin. Their academic society transcends trade and national borders, and, with around 250 staff members, it represents the largest non-university humanities-based research institution in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The idea of designing the new structure as a “dovecote” on the building’s roof is rooted in the name of the street on which it stands. The conference rooms are clad in a sculptural façade made of Corten steel.
