The new office and commercial building marks the entrance to Bremen’s city centre. Its exposed position, set on the visual axis running from the old town via the fortifications to the station, presented an opportunity to devise an architectonic solution that expresses a figurative dimension while at the same time slotting harmoniously into its surroundings. The building rises above the height of the perimeter construction, deriving its form from the plasticity of its references to the adjacent architecture. The complex staggered configuration of the main built volume generates a spectrum of different levels in the facade design, echoing the differing heights of the surrounding buildings. The facade extends across the edifice like an abstract textured surface. In order to emphasize the vertical dimension, the corners are bevelled, a detail that is repeated on a smaller scale in the window reveals. The design creates architecture directly linked to its setting, striking a balance between reticent elegance and urban design relevance.
Das Stadthaus Bahnhofstraße erhielt 2014 den Landespreis des BDA Bremen.
