The electrical substation at Lützowplatz was created as part of the international building exhibition (IBA) in 1984 in Berlin. The urban concept of the IBA planned an opening in the block perimeter, creating access to the block’s interior space. Accordingly, the substation was built as a gatehouse that reflects its functional purpose as a 20th century technical building in its appearance. Today, after more than 20 years, the architectural concepts and solutions reflected in the structure’s design remain highly relevant.
