The two seven-storey office buildings on Bremen’s Bahnhofsplatz, bisected by an alley, create a memorable city landmark. Together with the station, the square and the Übersee-Museum, they present a first impression for those entering the city. The acute angles characterise the dynamic expression of the buildings and, as an expressionist gesture, refer to the architectural tradition of this Hanseatic city. The recesses in the façade give the building ensemble its unique identity and figurative quality. As a result of refinements to the façades, the two structures differ subtly from each other, visually underlining the functions of office building and hotel. The diagonal alley forms the site’s main axis. In addition to its function as an urban link between the station and the city centre, it has the qualities of an urban residential location. With the pedestrian arcades leading to the square and the alley, the ensemble provides an impressive prelude to Bremen’s city centre.
