The museum to house Marli Hoppe-Ritter’s art collection rises out of the landscape around the small late-medieval town of Waldenbuch like an abstract stone block. The building’s solid mass, with large-format windows juxtaposed on different levels, is interrupted by a deep-cut passage that reveals a scenically framed view into the Aich Valley. The museum building, which includes a museum café and the Ritter Sport visitor centre, functions as a mise-en-scène of urbanity in the landscape. The openings create a smooth transition between interior and exterior, manifested too in the changing play of light and shade inside the building.
